I am currently Associate Professor of lens-based media at the University of Staffordshire. I have worked as an educator both in Aotearoa-New Zealand and the UK, writing courses, curricula and delivering interdisciplinary teaching in Photography and Fine Arts at undergraduate and postgraduate level. I served for four years as the Vice Chair for the AIPA (Advertising and Illustrative Photographers Assoc) in NZ organising exhibitions and publications of members’ work, and working towards the protection of photographers’ rights. Since 2020 and my arrival back in the UK I have developed partnerships in the UK with regional & national community & industry organisations and am currently studying for a PhD with focus on post-extractive landscapes. I am a founder member of Tangent Collective (Aotearoa), a member of PLACE Collective (UK) and creative partner at 35a (UK).

I currently lead the BA in Photographic Practice at Nottingham College. I have an MA in Photography and am an elected member of the Royal Photographic Society (RPS) at associate level, the Sports Journalist Association (SJA) and the Association of International Sports Photographers (AIPS). After graduating from my sculpture degree and working as a model maker for 5 years I first began shooting theatre productions, moving on to photograph elite sport as a full time professional in 2005 covering top level sport at the Olympic Games and World Cups in Rugby, Football and Cricket. In 2018 I was awarded the National Teaching Award for Higher Education at the APHE annual conference for the “Women of Nottingham” initiative, and I went onto deliver a paper on this project at the SPE conference in Cleveland, Ohio in March 2019. While at Nottingham College I have developed a student-led agency, creating opportunities for them to experience working with clients and to real life deadlines.

Exec Member - Graham Wilson

University of Oxford - graham.wilson@conted.ox.ac.uk

Having started teaching photography in various FE settings in 2017, I have run three years of a therapeutic photography intervention (teaching photography with a therapeutic intention), and am now teaching photography in an HE setting. These build on a decade's experience teaching counselling, psychology, leadership and organisation development in both FE and HE. A registered psychotherapist, while my PhD was in behavioural science, I have professional memberships and Fellowships in anthropology and visual sociology, and my particular interest in teaching photography is helping students to draw on these disciplines to inform their image making, and have written five textbooks on aspects of photography, and several in other fields. Outside teaching, I have been a trustee and chair of various charities, ran a professional development network for a decade, was a regional organiser for the RPS during the Covid-era, a member of the editorial team for one of their magazines, and write a regular column for Klick Magazine.

I have been the course leader for BA (Hons) Press and Editorial Photography (now renamed BA (Hons) Documentary and Editorial Photography) at Falmouth University since 2014 and have been associated with the course since its inception in 2008. Before joining Falmouth I was the Director of Photographic Rights and Reproductions at the Museum of the City of New York, Photo Editor at Rex USA (the NY-based US subsidiary of Rex Features, now Shutterstock), Director of Photography for the New York Post, Chief Editor at Rex Features in London, and Managing Editor of Photography for the New York Daily News. In addition (and unrelated to photo world), I am a writer and illustrator and have published three books. I take great pride in what my course has accomplished in terms of providing a dynamic photographic education for our students as we watch the industry shift and change rapidly.
