The APHE strongly believes that it’s members are a talented group of educators, practitioners and researchers, so we would like, as part of Summer Conference 2015 to introduce our first ever APHE Educator Awards. The Awards are aimed at recognising the amazing wealth of expertise and innovation which you all show in your teaching and making of photography.
At this stage, we would like to recognise three areas of work: Teaching, Research and Practice and Students.
For the Teaching Award, we are proposing a way of sharing what you do with APHE colleagues through Pecha Kucha presentations at the Conference. Pecha Kucha can itself be a really great approach to teaching, so we thought this would be a great way to start. Not only will we be able to share good practice in the supportive and engaged environment of the conference, but also to learn something new along the way, and also possibly even win an APHE glitterball for doing so! We will be putting out a call for conference presentations in February. And if you’ve never done a Pecha Kucha before, we’ll be happy to teach you. Awards will be decided on the day by audience vote, so we hope you’ll be in it to win it…
For the Practice Award, we intend to start small with a print exhibition at the conference. APHE members will be able to submit a print to the exhibition which will be on show during the conference. Themes and instructions will come to you all in February, but we would love to see and share our members work.
The Student Award will be based around digital submissions of small bodies of work to the conference. We are thinking of maybe making a small publication of submissions as a way of sharing the amazing work that our students produce. And APHE will award a prize for the best of the best, decided by a panel of APHE experts or attendees at the conference.
Submissions to the Awards will help APHE to foreground and appreciate the great work we all do, and of course to learn from each other. We hope that everyone will be keen to participate, after all photography, education and collaboration are a powerful mix…
