Photography – BA (Hons)
Look at life through a lens. Express your creativity and communicate your ideas through photography. This broad-based photography degree will allow you to explore and develop expertise in a range of photographic genres that will enable you to turn your passion and creativity into a career path.
Studying and researching photography, you’ll develop unrivalled technical and artistic skills, using dedicated facilities including traditional wet darkroom processing labs, large studios and industry-standard computers, software spanning all forms of image manipulation and film, video and animation. You’ll explore still and moving photography, exhibition work, installations and curation. You will produce a rich portfolio of work, research sketchbooks, exhibitions and essays.
Learn from award-winning staff and work with prestigious brands. Lecturer Professor Richard Billingham is a Turner Prize-nominated artist and one of our highly-acclaimed staff. Students have worked with Magnum in New York, Photoworks Magazine and Capture the Event photography (Capture the Event covered the 2012 Olympics). You’ll have the opportunity to visit international photo festivals, including the Delhi Photo Festival and Paris Photo.

If you dream of being a professional photographer and seeing your work published in magazines, books, online, advertisements, the fashion, music, sports, dance, food or advertising industries, then this is the course for you.
The BA (Hons) Photography – Editorial and Advertising course aims to equip graduates to work as commercial photographers and professional practitioners within the contemporary creative professions.
The product of years of interaction with the professional media industry, this course will equip you with a sound and appropriate creative, practical and academic platform to launch you into the professional world of photography and the moving image.
Commercial collaborations include Converse, China and Superdry, UK, Brand Nu, Beijing and Specialized, US. All lecturers on the course are professional photographers who are fully engaged with the new global landscape of professional photography.

Photojournalism and Documentary Photography BA (Hons)
This exciting course sets out to mentor you in developing your photography to creatively document and communicate stories about the world that surrounds you. You will explore and expand the narrative potential that contemporary digital imaging offers whilst immersing yourself in the traditional practices and skills of documentary photography.
Students develop their ability to use photography to create visually arresting images, make intriguing observations and construct engaging narratives. Students develop strategies to contextualise and construct their photographic work to address specific audiences. Creativity and individuality are encouraged and developed alongside an understanding of photography as a commercial enterprise.
This course blends photographic practice, creative production, critical analysis, theoretical studies and self-reflection to develop creative photographers with an informed appreciation of photography and the narrative potential of photographic practice.
Learning to work independently, utilising digital technology and film, you will progress to meet the challenges and opportunities of working in this exciting field of photography.
