Cary Welling studied art at Hornsey then photography at the RCA in the sixties. She had a long career teaching photography, primarily at Derby then Nottingham Trent. Her proudest achievements were collaborating with Rhonda Wilson to make the courses they worked on more outward looking and professional, starting the NTU Degree Show ‘festival’ and being Chair of APHE. Before she retired, she was external examiner at Westminster, Bournemouth and Napier. Now living in Orkney, Cary has been working with local writers and artists making and publishing books and running Northlight, a small white-wall gallery in Stromness.
