SPE welcomes proposals from photographers, artists, writers, educators, curators, historians, and professionals from other fields for the 2018 Annual Conference, UNCERTAIN TIMES: Borders, Refuge, Community, Nationhood. We will address questions of globalization, migration, territory, refuge, community, identity, nationalism, and internationalism, and will evaluate the contribution of photographic practices seeking to humanize and reveal these topics.
Topics are not limited to the theme and may include imagemaking, history, contemporary theory and criticism, multidisciplinary approaches, new technologies, effects of media and culture, educational issues, funding, and presentations of work in photography, film, video, performance, and installation.
SPE members and nonmembers are eligible to submit one (1) proposal for consideration. Individuals who have presented at two SPE annual conferences since 2015 (New Orleans) are not eligible. This also applies to co-presenters and/or panelists.
Proposal submissions are due by JUNE 1, 2017, 11:59 PM EDT. Visit SPE’s website for full submission details and requirements.
